The acoustic engineering community mourns Lewis S. Goodfriend

Last week we were saddened to hear about the passing of Lewis S. Goodfriend. A genuinely nice guy whose contributions to acoustical engineering will live on. See below from his obituary.

Lew was a proud Marine, serving in the Korean War. After the war, in 1953, Lew founded LSG&A as one of the first acoustical consulting engineering firms in the area. Prior to founding LSG&A, Lew obtained a Mechanical Engineer degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and a Master of Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. Lew went on to become one of the foremost experts in acoustical engineering.

Lew was a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and the Audio Engineering Society. He was a Past President and former Member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a Member of the Consulting Engineers Council, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, and American Society for Testing and Materials, and served on the Board of Trustees of Stevens Institute of Technology. Lew was also was the first Editor of Sound and Vibration Magazine and the first Editor of Noise Control, a publication of the Acoustical Society of America.
